Full Arch Implants

Full arch implants, also known as All-On-Four, are a comprehensive tooth replacement solution for individuals who have lost or are about to lose all of their teeth in one or both jaws. This treatment involves the placement of multiple dental implants to support a fixed bridge or denture, providing a stable and functional set of artificial teeth.

Before the procedure, your periodontist will complete a thorough examination of your jawbone, gum health, and overall oral health. This may include dental X-rays, 3D scans, and impressions of your jaws. Treatment planning involves determining the number and placement of dental implants required to support the prosthesis.

What are the Treatment Steps for Full Arch Implants

The first step in full arch implant treatment involves diagnostics and planning. At Dallas Periodontics, we virtually plan your case before any surgical procedure, to ensure accuracy and esthetics of your final teeth. Your initial appointment will include a thorough medical history, photographs, a CBCT 3D scan, and digital intraoral scans (similar to traditional impressions). Dr. Rabe will also review your wishes so that your case is fully customized to your needs.

The next phase of treatment involves surgical placement of dental implants. Typically, four to six implants per arch are strategically positioned in the jawbone. These implants serve as the anchors or "roots" for the full-arch prosthesis. The surgery is generally performed under local anesthesia or conscious sedation to ensure patient comfort.

After implant placement, a healing period is required to allow the implants to fuse with the jawbone, through a process called osseointegration. This integration provides a stable foundation for the prosthetic teeth. Healing time can vary, but usually takes anywhere from 12 to 24 weeks.

In most cases, a temporary or provisional set of teeth can be attached to the implants during the healing period. This allows for functional and aesthetic benefits while the implants are integrating with the bone.

Once the implants have fully healed, impressions of your mouth are taken to create the final full-arch prosthesis. The prosthesis can be a fixed bridge or a removable overdenture. It is custom-made to fit your mouth, providing a natural-looking, functional, and stable set of teeth.

Benefits of Full Arch Implants

There are multiple benefits to full arch implants. This fixture is typically reserved for patients who have severe periodontal disease or who have lost multiple teeth. Other tooth replacement options are available, such as dentures. However, dentures are not fixed into the jaw bone and may move when eating or speaking. Advantages of fixed implants include:

  • Restored function and aesthetics: Full arch implants provide a stable and secure solution for replacing a full set of teeth. They reestablish the ability to chew, speak, and smile confidently.
  • Improved oral health: Implants stimulate the jawbone, helping to prevent bone loss and maintain facial structure.
  • Enhanced comfort and stability: Unlike traditional dentures, full arch implants do not rely on adhesives or clasps, offering a more comfortable and secure fit.
  • Long-lasting solution: With proper care and maintenance, full arch implants have the potential to last a lifetime.

How to care for your Full Arch Implants

It's important to follow the dentist's instructions for oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups, and professional cleanings to ensure the longevity and success of your full arch implants.

Continue to brush and floss your implants and teeth normally. Dental implants and crowns are resistant to cavities, or dental decay. However, your fixture may develop bone loss, if not properly cared for. Water picks, proxabrushes, and mouth rinses are excellent adjuncts to add to your oral hygiene routine.
